August Lodge and baseball go back to when the Lodge was built in 2007. The lodge is located near The Home of Baseball - Cooperstown, NY. Baseball tourists from all over the world have been guests here. Teams from some of the local playing fields have rented the Lodge for their stays.

The primary ball field in Cooperstown is Abner Doubleday Field.  It's still used for the Hall of Fame Classic, although it used to be used for major league exhibition games, and after that, the Old Timers Game. This beautiful field is the quintessential intimate ballbark. Did you know that Doubleday Field was featured in the movie "A League of Their Own" (with Geena Davis and Tom Hanks)?

Doubleday is not the only field in town, though. The home of the American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame Invitational Tournaments, Cooperstown Dreams Park hosts games all summer long, as does Cooperstown Baseball World and Cooperstown All Star Village. These baseball camps are world-renowned among the youth baseball crowd.

August Lodge has had guests visiting all the parks, as well as The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum and many visiting other baseball attractions.

The award-winning National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is a draw for kids of all ages from all around the world. It's a must for any fan's pilgrimage to Cooperstown.

But the town is more than baseball, as any local resident or previous visitor to Cooperstown can tell you. It was founded by the father of the famous author, James Fennimore Cooper, Judge William Cooper. (You may recognize him as the author of "Last of the Mohicans," one of the "Leatherstocking" stories.)

One of the main local attractions is the Fenimore Art Museum. It presents changing and permanent exhibitions of North American Indian art and artifacts,  American Folk Art, 19th-century genre paintings, Hudson River School, and American photography.

A wonderful working farm, the Farmer's Museum harkens to America's agrarian past. It has a working smithy, as well as many authentic exhibits. A lovely exhibit here houses the Cardiff Giant, a true piece of americana. Here is where you can also ride the impressive Empire State Carousel. It's a carousel that is intricately carved with animals and famous people from New York State, finished in 1998.

Glimmerglass Opera is world renowned for the Glimmerglass Festival (featuring, among other events, "Aida" in the 2012 lineup).

A reminder of bygone times of English aristocracy in North America, Hyde Hall is a remarkable building and reminder of bygone times of English aristocracy in America, Hyde Hall is a remarkable historic structure. The edifice itself may be the most exceptional instance of neoclassic country manors anywhere in America.

Famous for it's ales, Brewery Ommegang is an authentic Belgian-style brewery. It's situated in sylvan environs just outside of Cooperstown.

With all these great attractions, baseball still remains the main draw to the Cooperstown and the August Lodge. And baseball and the August Lodge are inseparable.

August Lodge and Spa is the best Cooperstown Dreams Park lodging for baseball fans and their families. It's your best bet if you are looking for a  Cooperstown hotel.

Baseball Activities in Cooperstown NY

02/08/2012

Baseball Tourism is Cooperstown's major attraction. Youth-league baseball, baseball history, the Hall of Fame Classic game, and the baseball-themed stores that line the streets make up most of the town.

Probably the most notable attraction in town is the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. This award-winning and historic establishment is most notable for its yearly tradition of inducting baseball greats into "The Hall." The Baseball Hall of Fame has been honoring great managers, players, executives, umps and others who have made the game what it is today, from the days of Ty Cobb in 1956 right up to Roberto Alomar in 2011. You can find The Hall centered right on Main St.

Each Father's Day, the "Hall of Fame Classic" is played. This is an exhibition gam, featuring former Major League players, including Hall of Famers. It's held at Abner Doubleday Field, where the "Hall of Fame Game" used to be held. That game, originally between old-timers, eventually became a game between squads made up from major league players. It had traditionally been held during the Induction Weekend for the Hall of Fame.

The motto of Cooperstown Dreams Park, which is another great draw to Cooperstown, is "Where Baseball Present Meets the Traditional Values of Baseball Past"™. Young players from all over the States, and the world, make a pilgrimage to this park each year. It's the home of the National American Tournament of Champions - open to players 12-years old and under. The "American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame" is also housed there.

Although it's not actually located in Cooperstown, but in the town of Oneonta, not far away, Cooperstown Baseball World gives young athletes from 10 to 16 years of age a chance to play in tournaments. Damaschke field, a historic baseball park where Babe Ruth once played, is home to it's games, as well as the baseball fields of Oneonta State College. Currently home to the Detroit Tigers Class A Team, Damaschke field was previously the home to the NY Yankees Class A team.

On the other side of Oneonta, you'll find Cooperstown All-Star Village - the home of Youth Travel Baseball for children 12 to 16.

Cooperstown's main streets, as well as the outskirts, are lined with establishments with a baseball theme. Here you can find The Cooperstown Bat cCompany, where you can watch your own bat being made. You'll also find many baseball-card and memorabilia establishments, as well as lots of eateries owned by or dedicated to former baseball greats.

During your Cooperstown vacation, you'll want to be sure you are staying at the most comfortable and convenient location possible. Cooperstown offers a wide choice of motels, hotels, inns, rentals and other venues. A great choice, whether you are traveling with your family, or entire baseball teams and their entourages, is August Lodge and Spa (just minutes away from all the local attractions, and only a mile from Cooperstown Dreams Park).

One thing is for sure - wherever you stay in Cooperstown, NY, you are sure to find lots of baseball activities.

Finding Cooperstown Hotel That's Near The Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame

02/06/2012

The Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame is one of the most popular baseball destinations in the world. Tourists come from all over the world to experience the story of baseball at this renowned museum. Every summer the greats of baseballare inducted to the Hall in a traditional ceremony.  Watch the film and other presentations, visit the exhibits and the library, check out the Sandlot Kids Clubhouse and browse in the gift shop.

The Hall has inducted great baseball players, managers and other personalities into it’s ranks since it first inducted Ty Cobb and five others in 1936. The building was dedicated in 1939, and baseball fans have been visiting it in droves ever since.

Even though, in spite of the myth, baseball was not actually invented here by Abner Doubleday in 1839, Cooperstown is still dear to the hearts of baseball-lovers. A visit to the many baseball attractions of this historic town is considered a rite of passage for many girls and boys. (And just as often, it's been the dream vacation of many adults!)

When is the best time to visit the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame? Induction Weekend is a national event, bringing thousands of people to town and packing every Cooperstown hotel to maximum capacity in the summers. Traditionally played on Father's Day, the "Hall of Fame Classic" baseball game, held among major league players and Hall of Famers, is slotted to be played on the Saturday before Fathers Day in 2012.

If summers sound too crowded for you, consider that the Hall is open all year. If you want to visit a beautiful upstate New York town during the fall for the foliage, or in the winter for the Winter Carnivale, you can have as much elbow room as you want at The Hall during your visit.

No matter when you visit, your choice of  a Cooperstown lodging establishment should be taken seriously.

There is a good variety of different kinds of venues, including inns, motels, B&Bs, vacation rentals and hotels throughout the area . Each choice will have its plusses and minuses. You won't want to be split up and have to stay in different places if you are traveling in a large group. Vacation rentals, for example, could be across town from each other, making getting the group together an exercise in frustration. B&Bs can be great for couples, but too small for families or youth-league teams. Chain hotels can be impersonal, and motels can be cramped.

The right fit for most groups would be a lodge. A lodge generally has all the amenities you might need to have a great time together with your traveling companions, and can be rustic but luxurious at the same time.

A Cooperstown lodge might have a kid's playground, lots of space, fire-pit for barbecuing, and many other things that could be lacking at other Cooperstown lodging establishments. Comfort and fun are what lodges are designed for.

Cooperstown is a wonderful place to visit, and a trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame shouldn't be passed up. Your Cooperstown experience will create long-lasting impressions and will provide rich baseball-history memories for many years to come. Make sure you find a comfortable place that ensures your visit is a great success.

August Lodge and Spa is the leading Cooperstown hotel. It's the perfect place to stay during your visit to the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame.

Choosing A Hotel - How To Do It Using Online Hotel Reviews

02/01/2012

There are things you should keep in mind when visiting online hotel review sites.

You should base your decisions on more then just a single source. It is never enough to simply visit the review section of a hotel's own website. Of course you should visit the hotel's testimonial page, because you can get a feel for any positive features listed, but if there are any negatives about the hotel, you will never find them on the hotel's own site.

That's why other online hotel review sites exist. Since they aren't controlled by the hotel, you can get a better overview of how most guests feel about the hotel in question.

When you google the hotel's name, you will probably be shown some review sites as well. The Google Places page should be easy to find in the results. You can identify that by the small pushpin icon next to it, and possibly some stars if it has been reviewed. The number next to the stars indicates how many people have reviewed the hotel on Google. More reviews means more reliability.

You can find the Google reviews by clicking next to the stars, on the number of reviews - that will take you right to the Google Places page of the hotel.

Here are some other review sites besides Google. Use the search boxes on their pages to see if the hotel you are checking is listed with them.
  • tripadvisor.com
  • localdirectory.azcentral.com
  • kayak.com/Hotels
  • travel.yahoo.com
  • lonelyplanet.com
  • national.citysearch.com
  • travelpod.com
It's a good idea to check the hotel's local Chamber of Commerce site for reviews.

For more accuracy, use quotation marks around the hotel's name wen using the search boxes of a review site.

Here are some other things to think about when checking out online review:

If some competitor wants to sabotage the hotel, or some disgruntled employee or crank has chip on his or her shoulder, you may find a solitary one-star review among many other higher reviews. Treat such situations with a grain of salt. Don't let one bad apple spoil what might be a great vacation choice for you. (By the way, be aware that it is probably illegal, and certainly a violation of internet policies, for a competitor to trash an establishment just because they are competing for business.)

If the majority or the review are negative, on the other hand, that should seriously raise a red flag with you.

Just as it is illegitimate to write a fake negative review, it is also illegitimate for a company to write fake positive reviews, or fake reviews for them by someone else. Although occasionally done, this kind of action is entirely unacceptable That is why it is imperative that you use more than one source for reviewing. Don't rely solely on the Google reviews (although you should certainly check them.)Make sure you check out other online hotel review sites, as well.

If you do find bad reviews, check to see if the owner or some other representative of the hotel has taken the time and effort to respond to them. If the owner of the hotel has an account with the site, s/he can respond to reviews To get a feel for the hotel's general attitude, see if the response is courteous, or if there is a confrontational style. To get a feel for the hotel's general attitude, see if the response is courteous, or if there is a confrontational style.

If the response is simply a brusque denial, and doesn't consider that the other side may have a point - beware!

If you would like, you can register with any of the above sites, for free. You can then log in and review any venue they have listed.

Massage Therapy at August Lodge and Spa

01/14/2012

Outstanding lodging for baseball tourists and youth-league teams is not the only thing you can expect at August Lodge and Spa Cooperstown hotel, in Hartwick, NY.

There is a total spa on the premises, complete with therapists who specialize in Full Body Massage, Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Hot Stone Massage, as well as Reflexology. All of the therapists are  NY State Licensed.

The massages are available in thirty, sixty or ninety-minute sessions.

August Lodge and Spa offers the following massages:

Paraffin Wax Infusions -
PerfectSense™ Paraffin Wax Infusions is one of the treatments the August Lodge and Spa offers.

The warm physiotherapeutic paraffin is infused with eleven vitamins - among them are A, C, E, D, B-5 and B-12. These are nutrients that are vital to healthy skin. This provides heat and hydration for soft, smooth skin and protection for dry, rough hands and feet. AromaVapor therapy is included.

You can get the PerfectSense™ for either your hands, your feet, or both. There is a special low rate if it is added to a massage.

Swedish -
Swedish Massage is sometimes known as "classic" or "traditional." Because it is so effective for many ailments, it is probably the most popular form of massage.

Through it's circular motions, long strokes, and kneading, it affects the muscles, nerves, circulation and glands, and promotes health and well-being. This form of massage assists the body in ridding unwanted strain and stress, as well as excess fluid. This form of massage assists the body in ridding unwanted strain and stress, as well as excess fluid.

Deep Tissue -
This deep, slow, intense and invigorating massage is designed to relax soreness from the deep layers of muscles and their connective tissue, and relieves joints that are tired from overuse or intense exercise.

Blood flow, stress relief and help reducing chronic pain are some of the benefits that can be had from Deep Tissue Massage.

Hot Stone -
An effective alternative to Deep Tissue Massage may be a Hot Stone Treatment. Tension melts away under the penetrating heat of volcanic Basalt stones.

The stones are placed on vital parts of the back.  The therapist may use the stones to massage the muscles.

When your therapist adds the heated stones to the muscles, you can feel yourself relax, enhancing circulation and the healing process with this calming treatment. Hot Stone Massage can be an effective option for those who want to help release of tight muscles and relaxation of the body.

Reflexology -
Pressure points are manipulated on the feet, in order to reduce fatigue and tension, thus inducing energy and harmony throughout the body.

A massage would be a great way to relax at the end of a day at the August Lodge and Spa.
